1 messing around with my webcam

1.0.1 getting it to work in vlc

first of all, it was not working as a vlc capture device. turns out at first i had to install another program

sudo pacman -S zvbi

installing this fully enabled the ’video’ section in VLC’s ’capture device’ menu dialog

1.0.2 messing around with the webcam for calls

i have wanted to be able to combine streams of various things, and then join a call with it. I don’t like that ’share desktop’ in teams or zoom calls looses the face.

following install steps stolen from https://github.com/CatxFish/obs-virtual-cam/issues/17

if you havent installed anything with dkms yet:

→ sudo pacman -S linux-headers dkms

that takes a while, so buckle int

yay -S v4l-utils v4l2loopback-utils obs-studio v4l2loopback-dkms
→ sudo modprobe v4l2loopback
→ yay -S obs-v4l2sink

now, you should be able to go to tools, vl2sink, and stream directly to a fake webcam!

it is possible you have to first create the virtual card like this:

sudo modprobe v4l2loopback devices=1 video_nr=10 card_label="RTMP server" exclusive_caps=1

please give it a better name than I did
